5 Things We Miss the Most About Diving

Like the rest of the world, we were self-isolating and staying home. Now Bali has opened it’s borders to domestic tourists and any tourists who have been calling Indonesia home for some time.

As we reminisce and welcome back a small number of tourists, we thought we’d share the top five things we miss the most about diving every day with you, our guests.

1. Scuba Diving

This is a pretty obvious one, but we miss being underwater! We miss the actual physical act of submerging into the beautiful blue and exploring the world underneath. For some, diving is all about the adventure; Lembongan and Penida have world-famous currents, and the thrill of gliding through those breathtaking scenes is second to none. For others, diving is about the escapism; being submerged in the silence and getting away from all the worries and responsibilities from the land above is priceless. Either way, we miss it and can’t wait to return to the ocean!

2. The Underwater Creatures

Obviously, being underwater is pretty amazing in itself, but we also miss all of our aquatic friends who live down there! It’s been nearly two months since we’ve had a mating train of manta rays glide above our heads, or since a hungry turtle chomped down on his coral dinner right in front of us. We miss the joy we get when we find a teeny tiny critter, or the absolute delight of a shark surprising us as we glance out into the blue. Until we get to say hi to our favourite sea creatures again, we’ll have to settle for documentaries and fish ID books.

3. Meeting New People

We know that diving is a buddy sport. We meet new people on every adventure, and we miss our land buddies just as much as our aquatic ones! Whether its new experiences with old friends or getting to know a new buddy, we love that diving leads us likeminded people who share the same love of the ocean. More often than not, diving expands our friendship group to all corners of the world.

4. Always Learning

It’s important to keep pushing yourself in diving, whether it’s learning new skills or refreshing old ones. As professionals, we get immense joy in teaching people how to dive. We love seeing anxiety turn into excitement and sharing our passion and experiences with every single guest. Although we can’t practice a skill circuit in our bathtubs, we can start the theory of our next course through eLearning. We can also practice CO2 tables for freediving, and we can flip through old textbooks to remind ourselves of courses we’ve already completed. That should tide us over for a little while, right?

5. Après Dive

Diving isn’t just about the dive. It’s about everything that comes before and after, from the pre-dive excitement to the buzz on the boat on the way back to the shop talking about all we’ve seen. Sitting down for a delicious Bintang back at the dive shop, flipping through fish ID books with new dive buddies...it’s all part of the fun!

Needless to say, we can’t wait to go diving again and to welcome back the Blue Corner family from all corners of the world.
